Custom Curved LED Ring Display for Retail and Brand Signage

A previous project involved designing a custom curved LED ring display for a European shopping mall installation. The client, whom we’ll call Tom for confidentiality, wanted a sleek LED ring around a small podium to display scrolling text and brand information.

Understanding Client Needs

Tom was not familiar with LED specifications, such as pixel pitch (P-value) or module resolution. The main requirement was clear readability for text and simple icons. To ensure the text, including letters like “A,” “E,” and “O,” would be legible, we calculated that each character needed at least 6–8 pixels in height.

Based on the display height of 160mm, the optimal solution was a P2.5 LED display, providing 64 pixels in height. This allowed smooth scrolling text and small icon display without sacrificing clarity.

Design Considerations

The LED ring design included:

• Curved corners for a seamless, continuous scrolling effect

• Circumference: 5.76 meters

• Screen height: 160mm

• Pixel pitch: P2.5

• Content: Brand name and simple graphical icons

Rounded corners were particularly important. Sharp edges can interrupt scrolling text visually, while curved corners allow smooth, flowing text around the ring.

Installation & Quality Assurance

Before shipment, each curved LED module underwent aging and quality tests to ensure color consistency and stable performance. The modules were then carefully packaged for transport to prevent damage during shipping.

• Final installation: The LED ring fit perfectly around the podium, delivering an eye-catching and professional display

Outcome and Takeaways

The final curved LED ring display provided the client with a clear, elegant, and highly visible signage solution. By starting from content requirements rather than fixed specifications, we ensured the design met both technical and aesthetic goals.
